Many patients saw multiple providers and took multiple medications, increasing the potential for drug-drug interactions and other prescribing risks.

The existing EHR provided limited interaction checking, leaving providers to rely heavily on medication-list reviews and clinical recall during busy encounters. Existing alerts were also not well targeted, contributing to alert fatigue and making important interactions harder to distinguish.

The solution consolidated medication data and surfaced targeted interaction and prescribing-risk alerts directly within the prescribing workflow, while keeping the final decision with the clinician.

The client is a U.S.-based multi-specialty outpatient provider group serving a high volume of scheduled and walk-in patients across multiple clinic locations. Persistent wait times were affecting both patient experience and daily clinic operations.

The existing scheduling process did not account for visit types or provider capacity, while paper-based check-in created front-desk queues. Staff also lacked real-time visibility into patient movement and emerging bottlenecks, making it difficult to address delays before patients were already waiting.

To address these issues, the client engaged A&I Solutions to enhance its custom EHR with intelligent scheduling, digital check-in, and real-time patient-flow visibility. The group includes four board-certified orthopedic surgeons and nine physician assistants, supported by a clinical and administrative team of 60 staff members and performing approximately 7,500 procedures annually.

The existing EHR was designed for general clinical documentation and did not support the imaging-intensive workflows required for orthopedic surgery. Surgeons reviewed radiographs, MRI studies, and CT scans through a separate PACS workstation, while surgical plans were documented using paper forms and implant information was manually recorded after procedures.

To address these limitations, the client partnered with A&I Solutions to develop custom EHR software built around orthopedic surgical workflows. The solution integrated imaging into the patient record, digitized pre-operative and operative documentation, and connected implant tracking with billing and compliance workflows.
